One summer evening Lily and her spouse are enjoying a meal while their baby girl sleeps peacefully in her pram beneath a maple tree. But Lily steps outdoors to discover her baby soaked in bloodstream.

The distraught parents rush to the hospital where they discover that she actually is unharmed. Inspector Sejer is named in and spends the evening trying to grasp why anyone would carry out such a sinister prank. Then, right before midnight, somebody rings his doorbell.

The corridor is empty, but the caller has remaining a little grey envelope in the mat. Within it, Sejer discovers a postcard bearing a short message: Hell starts now…
