Take A Xmas Story and blend in The Sandlot and you will obtain Joseph Walker’s charming vacation novel-Christmas on Mill Street.

It’s 1962, and young Sam Andrews just moved to Utah from Az. A tall, over weight, semi-clumsy outsider, he’s still trying to fit in with the neighborhood boys. When conversation about sledding down the infamous Mill Street starts, Sam pipes in and says he’ll get it done. The problem is certainly, Sam has only seen snow in photos and hasn’t in fact ridden a sled. Also to top everything off, Mill Street is virtually a vertical drop with two fatal curves. A rider going as well fast would shoot right off Mill Road and in to the Kimballs’ thorn-filled pyracantha bushes. But there’s no turning back now.
