National Book Honours Autobiography of the entire year 2013.

Born the child of a Billingsgate market porter in the height of the next World Battle, David Jason spent his early lifestyle dodging bombs and bullies, both with impish good timing. Quitting on an unloved profession as an electrician, he switched his focus on acting and quickly, through an all natural talent to make people laugh, found himself working with the leading lights of British about David Jason: My Life humor in the 1960s and ’70s: Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Bob Monkhouse and Ronnie Barker. Barker would turn into a mentor to David, leading to hugely effective stints in Porridge and Open All Hours.

It wasn’t until 1981, kitted out using a sheepskin jacket, a flat cap, and a clapped-out Reliant Regal, that David discovered the part that could capture the country’s hearts: the favorite Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in mere Fools and Horses. Never a one-trick pony, he previously an award-winning spell as TV’s favorite detective Jack Frost, took a country jaunt as Pop Larkin in the Darling Buds of May, as well as voiced a crime-fighting toon rodent in the much-loved children’s present Danger Mouse.

But life hasn’t all been very easy: from missing out on a key role in Dad’s Military to nearly drowning within a freak diving accident, David has had his fair share of fluctuations, and has dropped some of his family members along the way.

David’s is a touching, funny and warm-hearted tale, which charts the course of his incredible five decades near the top of the entertainment business. He’s been a shopkeeper and a detective inspector, a crime-fighter and a market trader, and he ain’t completed however. As Del Boy would state, it’s all cushty.

The introduction to the David Jason audiobook is definitely narrated by David himself.
