“Let’s get shed together . ”

Lost in my Backyard brings acclaimed writer Tim Cahill together with one of his-and America’s-favorite locations: Yellowstone, the world’s first country wide park. Cahill has been “puttering around in the recreation area” for a quarter of a hundred years, gradually covering its huge scope and exploring its remote backwoods. So will this mean that he understands what he’s doing? Barely. “I live fifty kilometers from the recreation area,” says Cahill, “but proximity does not guarantee competence. Cahill stumbles from glacier to geyser, encounters wildlife (some of it, like bisons, weighing in a nearby of quite a bit), muses within the microbiology of thermal private pools, gets spooked in the mysterious Hoodoos, sees moonbows arcing throughout waterfalls at midnight, and generally has a fine old time taking walks several hundred kilometers while contemplating the idea and worth of wilderness. Mostly, Cahill says, “I’ve resisted the urge to commit viewpoint. This is challenging to do when you’re alone, twenty miles through the nearest road, and you’ve just discovered a grizzly bear track the size of a pizza.”

Divided into three parts-“The Tracks,” that provides a variety of favorite day hikes; “In the Backcountry,” which explores three great backcountry tracks very much from the beaten track; and “A Selected Yellowstone Bookshelf,” an annotated bibliography of his preferred books over the park-this is usually a hilarious, beneficial, and perfect guidebook for Yellowstone veterans and first-timers alike. Lost in My Own Backyard is certainly adventure composing at its very best.
