A Northerner in exile, Stuart Maconie continues on a journey in search of the North, wanting to discover where in fact the clichés end and the reality begins. He moves from Wigan Pier to Blackpool Tower and Newcastle’s Bigg Market towards the Lake Area to discover his own North Soul, encountering on the way an exotic solid of chippy Scousers, pie-eating woollybacks, topless Geordies, mad-for-it Mancs, Yorkshire nationalists and brothers in southern exile.
