The Metamorphosis (German: Pass away Verwandlung) is a novella compiled by Franz Kafka that was initial published in 1915. Among Kafka’s best-known works, The Metamorphosis tells the story of salesman Gregor Samsa who wakes one morning to discover himself inexplicably changed into a large insect (German ungeheures Ungeziefer, literally ‘monstrous vermin’), subsequently struggling to adjust to this fresh condition.
